How does a blog update sound? Sounds awesome, actually.

I just got a new pair of speakers for the laptop, Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II. These guys pump out 16W per channel and produce a very deep sound using BassXport (Creative’s fancy word for pounding bass using the air inside the speakers’ housing). The dials (bass, treble, volume) are very smooth, and it includes headphone and AUX IN ports on the front, as well as an iPod docking plug (dock not included) on the back. Many of you may or may not have heard of the popular website Encyclopedia Dramatica. One of the website administrators (going by the name of “weev”) has been under fire recently for publicizing information about a supposed “attack” on AT&T (though I would not categorize it as an attack in the way the information was handled). The FBI raided his house, took him into custody, and seized his computers. All because he blogged about AT&T’s big mistake.

Not only was the arrest completely unwarranted, the authorities have violated the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. On top of that, he is being denied a defense attorney on behalf of his trial.

This is simply a case of a corporation taking the little people to school, except this time it hits one of us.

As I am not a lawyer and I do not have the kind of money needed to aid him in fighting back, I have decided to spread his words. You can read his blog post at the link below.

Best of luck weev.

Chestos back with a new mix, “A State of Awesome”, and the sounds are undeniable. No skimping on the beats here and there’s a good level of loose retro-feeling synth – the bass and synth will rarely collide, so don’t expect any house vibes from it. This mix is a bit more mellow than Clublife 4, but don’t forget to turn the bass up.

My apologies for the lack of updates, I’ve been very busy with a big move and a few life-changing transitions that I hope won’t take much longer to complete. I have not forgotten you, though!

Chesto has asked me to use his SoundCloud address. You can still download the track, but you can now listen to it using your web browser as it will stream and buffer; much like YouTube. Here is the track: 40 minutes long, it is 37.04 MiB in size under MP3 (128 kbit CBR, 44 kHz) format.

A group of people fed up with the recent Privacy Policy changes (and the difficulty in completely locking down your information) on Facebook have banded together to form “Quit Facebook Day“. On May 31st, those people (the number is currently at 1889 and growing fast) plan to permanently leave Facebook – unless, I assume, the social network’s coordinators change their policies and user-unfriendly privacy interface.

Personally I don’t have a big problem with the changes, albeit they are quite annoying and just keeping on top of the Privacy Policy is more of a weekly chore than anything else. My history on Facebook cannot be described as a pleasant one, however. Read the rest of this entry

There’s a nasty little feature in Windows Vista & 7 64-bit editions that require drivers to have an authority signature on them. This was very inconvenient for me as I use a piece of software called Virtual Audio Cable to route my mixing software to various audio interfaces and loop-backs. VAC does not contain signed drivers for the audio hooks, so I set out to find a fix.

The problem with this is that independent software developers will be forced to pay a very nasty fee to allow their drivers to be installed on Windows 64-bit systems. Unfair, much?

Microsoft claims this enforcement is to prevent root-kits and malware from accessing the kernel level of the operating system (why they would need to do that is beyond me), but I have another theory: DRM. More information and a fix after the break. Read the rest of this entry
